SAN SEBASTIAN
2006
Measures: 20 cm. + 12 cm. + 10 cm.
Sebastian, original from Narbona. As a soldier, he managed to be appointed First Court Captain of the Praetorian Guard. His christianity was denounced to Emperor Maximian who made him choose between being his soldier or sticking to Jesus Christ faith. The saint chose to be loyal to Christ’s Army.
The snubbed Emperor condemned him to be shot arrowed at to death. Emperor’ soldiers took him to the stadium, had him stripped off, tied him up to a stake and had him exposed to an arrow shower. Everybody thought him dead, yet he did not die there but at a second encounter with the Emperor’ soldiers.
Saint Sebastian’s cult dates back long ago. His patronage includes protection from the plague and against religion foes; he is also called the christian Apollo, for he is one of the saints with more depictions in art works.
