SANTA AGATHA

2006

Measures: 20 cm. + 12 cm. + 8 cm.

Noble Sicilian virgin of fine beauty and wealth who rejected the love of a Roman prefect, undergoing further martyrdom. In art she is frequently represented with her excised breasts on a plate.

She is the Patron Saint of Malta and Catania, Italy. Legend tells that on several occasions only by wearing her veil (taken from a tomb in Catania) while on procession she brought to a halt volcano eruptions of the nearby Mount Etna, it is also said that her intercession had saved Malta from Turkish invasion in 1551.
